GOATS!!

Nigerian Dwarf goats

Nigerian Dwarf goats

Please come and meet our herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats. They are the smallest recognized breed of dairy goat. When in production, the females can produce upwards of 2 cups of milk at their morning milking. They are very curious goats, hence why they are behind a fence. Without it they would be climbing in (and on) vehicles and sneaking into the horse paddocks and stealing grain! They also are trying to keep their figure for the holidays, so please do not feed them. Our herd consists of three adult female Does and two male Kids.

Dolce at Christmas tree farm

Come meet Dolce

Dolce is the head goat and mother to both Zeppole and Marcello. She is often seen bossing some other goat around!  She is very vocal and the loudest goat by far in our little herd.  In the warmer months when the goats are able to forage around the farm, Dolce is the best at finding and directing her herd mates towards delectable treats, particularly wild blackberry and raspberry bramble.

Renata our Goat

Renata

Renata is a full sister to Dolce.  She is second in command, although the two Kids are starting to take more lead into herd life as they get older. She is easy to distinguish, as she is the only goat in the herd with wattles. These are two small appendages that hang down on her neck. She is by far the best grain forager in the herd and our escape artist. She also is surprisingly limber, and on occasion has jumped 2-3 feet straight over something…usually looking for something else to eat!

Coco at Greenwood

Coco

This little girl is the easiest to identify, as she is the only goat with dark brown and black mixed into her coat. She is a full sister to Dolce and Renata, but born a year later. Coco is the most petite of our Does, and has the most adventurous temperament. She is the most willing to be leashed and explore new areas without her herd mates, although she is always happy to be reunited with her fellow goats.

Zeppole

Zeppole

Born in the spring of 2013, Zeppole is one of our two male kids. He is the smaller of the two Kids with brown spotting on his backside. Zeppole spends most of his time hanging out with his brother Marcello. He likes to spend his time climbing on top of things and butting heads with his brother. For quick identification purposes, Zeppole does not wear a collar.

Marcello

Marcello

Our other “baby”, Marcello is the larger Kid with the mostly white coat.  When not with his brother, he likes to say hello to Mom, Dolce, and cuddle with the farm staff. He thinks he is a lap goat! To quickly pick him out of the grouping look for the larger Kid not wearing a collar. The boys are growing so quickly they keep outgrowing their collars!
